Graystone CEO Jorge Vazquez Featured on “The Medicine and Money Show” with J. Ryan Smolarz, M.D., M.B.A.
Tampa, Florida – Graystone Investment Group CEO Jorge Vazquez was recently featured as a special guest on The Medicine and Money Show, the fast-growing podcast hosted by J. Ryan Smolarz, M.D., M.B.A., which helps high-performing doctors escape financial dependency and build long-term wealth.
During this interview, Dr. Smolarz guided a deep conversation around wealth-building, real estate investing, money psychology, and why today’s doctors must learn to shift from “consumer” to “investor” if they want real financial independence.
Jorge began by explaining why real estate education is broken — too many teachers, not enough practitioners.
“There are a lot of gurus out there teaching strategies they don’t practice,” Jorge said. “They don’t own properties. They don’t run businesses. They teach theory. At Graystone, everybody on our team is required to be an investor. We teach from real experience — and from real scars.”
Jorge shared his background as a former financial advisor with securities licenses, helping clients manage retirement plans, annuities, and long-term financial goals. That early experience shaped the way he guides investors today.
“My job back then was to find out someone’s goals before giving advice,” Jorge said. “It’s the same in real estate. I won’t recommend anything until I know your short-term and long-term goals. Most people — even very successful professionals — can’t answer that clearly.”
Dr. Smolarz explored how these principles apply specifically to physicians, who often earn high incomes later in life but start their careers with debt, limited time, and limited financial education.
Jorge offered simple strategies doctors can use immediately, including house hacking during residency, partnering with peers on early deals, and building a long-term single-family portfolio before jumping into larger projects.
“It might not be your dream home,” Jorge explained, “but you can live in a property for a little while, rent rooms to classmates, build equity, and when you start making real money, you move up to larger investments.”
Jorge also shared the story of buying his first home at 21, growing up in a poor family, and promising himself to pursue wealth through ownership, not consumption.
“The necessity to survive pushed me,” he said. “Real estate became my way out — and now I help others follow that path.”
Throughout the episode, Dr. Smolarz kept the conversation focused on the mindset shift doctors need to break out of the traditional financial traps that come with high-income careers.
The interview highlighted why so many doctors now turn to real estate as their primary long-term wealth strategy — and why having a guide who actually invests makes all the difference.
