I started in finance, managing other people’s money in stocks and bonds. Then it hit me: if I kept focusing on paper assets, I’d never build the kind of tangible wealth that real estate creates. So I dropped my securities license and jumped in headfirst.
That background in finance became my secret weapon. I wasn’t just “buying houses.” I was analyzing markets, calculating risk, and reading numbers like a trader — but applying it all to real estate.
The 2008 Crash: My Hardest Lesson
When the financial crisis hit, I lost 22 properties and my entire business. It was brutal. I made mistakes — overleveraged, overconfident, and underprepared.
But that collapse became the best education of my life. It taught me discipline, patience, and how to build smarter, not bigger.
Failure wasn’t the end. It was the reset I needed to rebuild stronger than ever.
The Strategies That Changed Everything
When I came back into the market, I focused on strategies that would create stability and velocity — the twin engines of real estate wealth.
Diversification
Don’t rely on one property type or one city. Spread your risk. That’s how I built a portfolio that can handle market swings.
The BRRRR Method
Buy. Rehab. Rent. Refinance. Repeat. It’s the system that let me recycle capital over and over without constantly needing new money.
House Hacking
Live in one unit, rent out the rest. That move covered my mortgage and built my first chunk of equity faster than anything else.
